It has been reported that Royal Caribbean is to partner with the Barbados government to build a new port in Bridgetown.

The facility, which is expected to create around 700 jobs in total, will sit on 100,000 square foot of land – including 15 acres from the sea. Dredging will begin in November.
“If we are going to remain relevant, if we are going to capitalise on the opportunities available from cruise tourism, we must renew our plant from the basic infrastructure currently existing to one which will accommodate and service the increasingly large cruise ships,” said Barbados Minister of International Transport and International Business George Hutson.
“The number of cruise ship calls have declined as ships have become larger and requiring more dedicated berths with specialised infrastructure,” he added.
The project will cost US$300 million and will take two years to complete, being spearheaded by Barbados Port, SMI Infrastructure Solutions and Royal Caribbean.
