On 27 June 2012, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) had a writing sent to Hanoi People's Committee on the organization of 2013 International Tourism Exhibition (ITE) in Hanoi.

According to the draft scheme, the International Tourism Exhibition in Vietnam period 2013-2020 (ITE VIETNAM) will be hosted alternately in Hanoi in the odd years and Ho Chi Minh City in the even.

However, the decision was encountered by Ho Chi Minh Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism (HCMC DOCST).

Mr. La Quoc Khanh, Deputy Director HCMC DOCST said that with current facilities and experience, Hanoi can not organize this event successfully.
