Air Mekong has also confirmed this information and said that CEO (Managing Director) is a newly appointed position in the firm. Currently, Mr. Doan Quoc Viet, Chairman of Air Mekong, continues to concurrently hold the General Director position.
Mr. Luong Hoai Nam was born in 1963 at Dien Chau, Nghe An province. He studied economics in Lithunia Aviation University of former Soviet Union, had 11 years served Vietnam Airlines Corporation as Chief of Planning - Market Board before moving on to General Director of Pacific Airlines Joint Stock Aviation Company (now Jetstar Pacific) in 2004.
In the process of restructuring, Pacific Airlines sold its shares to Qantas (Australia), reoperated under budget airline model and renamed as Jetstar Pacific Airlines Joint Stock Aviation Company in 2008. In January 2010, Mr. Luong Hoai Nam was arrested for Jetstar Pacific being in custody for more than 30 million loss, one reason of which is the performance of fuel hedging. In late 2010, the department of investigation has decided to suspend the case Jetstar Pacific, and Mr. Luong Hoai Nam is absolved from criminal prosecution.
In Vietnam aviation market, there are four current airlines which are Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific, Air Mekong and Vietjet Air. In particular, Air Mekong is classified as a "young" airline since its first taking-off is on October 10, 2010.
