Cat Bi International Airport to be upgraded
Update: 12:13, Saturday, Sep 15,2012 (GMT+7)
The Prime Minister has approved the master plan to upgrade Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong City during the period 2015-2025.

Cat Bi is the international airport of Hai Phong with the traffic increased by an average of 38.16% a year over the past six years - the fastest growth in the country.

However, Cat Bi now only has a single runway with the ability to operate ATR72, A320, B737-300 and has shown signs of degradation after 16 years of construction. In 2011, Cat Bi airport served 631,000 passengers, much higher than the current scale of 350,000 visitors per year.

Therefore, the Government has agreed with the plan to upgrade Cat Bi airport to 4E (standard code of International Civil Aviation Organization) from now to 2015. Accordingly, Cat Bi will have a new runway, parallel and 200m away to the south from the current runway, ensuring the operation of Boeing B747-300, B777-300, B777-200, Airbus A321 aircraft, as well as upgrade the passenger terminal to serve 4-5 million passengers/ year.

This airport is also a reserve one for Noi Bai International Airport.
