Danang - Bangkok flights to be resumed
Update: 08:35, Wednesday, Aug 15,2012 (GMT+7)
Danang City authorities are working with related sides in an endeavor to reopen the air connection between Danang City and Thailand’s Bangkok which has been suspended almost 2 years ago.

According to the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the local government now is working with Thai Airways, the foreign carrier of the route earlier, as one of the partners. Besides, the city also pins high hopes on the participation of AirAsia as another air service supplier for the same route.

Thai Airways suspended Danang - Bangkok flights from mid 2010

The flight could start later this year or by early next year. In the meantime, the travel community will prepare the market with a road show to Bangkok this October to gain support from tour operators based in the Thai capital. Local tour operators and hotels will also cover part of the total number of tickets to help the carrier offset losses while the carrier will attract foreign visitors for them in return.

Thai Airways has shown interest in operating Danang – Bangkok flights by announcing the consideration on this route once its daughter company, Thais Smile, started operations in July.
The city also hopes Thai AirAsia to consider operating flights between Danang and Bangkok

Currently, there are two airlines offering international flights to Danang; AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and SilkAir from Singapore. Both offer four flights weekly.

Apart from the  Danang – Bangkok route, the city is cooperating with a Hong Kong tour operator, Hong Thai Travel Services, to operate charter flights from Hong Kong to Danang this October. The city hopes it will lead to scheduled flights in the future.

During the first half of 2012, Danang welcomed nearly 1.33 million travellers, up 9% year-on-year. Travel earned an estimated turnover of more than VND2.9 trillion, a pickup of 39%.
