United Airlines current headquarter - United Buiding (77 West Wacker Drive) finished in 1992
United Airlines announced today that it will move its headquarters into Chicago's Willis Tower – formerly known as the Sears Tower – under a lease that would run through 2028.
United already has moved its Network Operations Center to the building, with that facility becoming fully operational this past May.
Willis Tower
Officials say United will occupy approximately 25% of the 110-storey building, which means United will be leasing a total of 830,000 square feet at Willis, occupying 16 floors.
At 1,450 feet, the Willis Tower is currently the tallest skyscraper in the USA, though honor is likely to shift to New York next year once the new World Trade Center tower is completed there. Similarly, United's status as the USA's biggest carrier could change as the climate for mergers heats up in the U.S. aviation industry.
